Travel Insurance

Travel with confidence, knowing what happens if you get sick or stranded.

Travel insurance helps cover emergency medical costs and trip problems when you are away from home.

Common types of cover

Emergency medical

Hospital, doctor and other urgent care while travelling.

Trip cancellation and interruption

Non-refundable costs if you must cancel or cut a trip short for a covered reason.

Baggage and delays

Loss, theft or travel delays, subject to policy terms.

Why you need it

Provincial health plans cover very little outside your province or country, and a hospital stay abroad can run to tens of thousands of dollars or more. Travel insurance is there for the unexpected.

The fine print that catches travellers out: the stability clause

If you have a medical condition, most policies only cover it if it has been stable for a set period before you leave, often 90, 180 or 365 days depending on the plan and your age. “Stable” generally means no new symptoms, no change in medication and no pending tests or referrals. A claim related to a condition that changed may be refused.

Before you buy: think back over the last 6 to 12 months. If your health or medication changed, tell us. We will help you find a policy that suits your situation.
